Leader: John Glover
Eleven Parawais met at the Karori Park Café at 9.30am for coffee, before setting out. Eight had travelled there by public transport, three by car.
At 10:15am we were on our way, walking up Makara Road to the official start of the Skyline walk. The weather looked promising, but a few dark clouds had us wondering if we'd be needing our parkas at some stage. However, the further we went, the better the weather became, exactly as forecast.
We were walking northwards because there was a light southerly wind blowing. Light, but cold - encouraging us to keep moving in order to keep warm.
The southern end of this walk provides good views over the wind farms in the area. We could also clearly see the Kaikoura ranges and parts of Cook Strait.
As we got to the middle section, Wellington and the harbour came more into view. We stopped for lunch in what looked like a sheltered spot, but once lunch had been consumed, were encouraged to move along by that cool wind.
Kaukau was our last peak on the walk before beginning the descent to Khandallah Station and our transport home.
Special thanks to Rodney who went above and beyond, delivering the first aid kit to us as we waited for the bus at Paraparaumu station.
Those on the trip were:
Bryan Wild, Chris Keating, Glenda Robb, John Glover, Kate Livingston, Marian Cox, Owen Cox, Pam Glover, Yingjun Shelton, Dylan Cox, Linus
Currently there is no photo album for this trip.
