A very cold trip into Dundas Hut and out via Cattle Creek Hut. Saturday - Up Herepai, Ruapae, East and West Peak, Pukemoremore and onto the hut. It snowed over night. Sunday - We dropped down the track to the Ruamahanga river and then climbed up to Cattle Ridge Hut. Then we dropped down to Roaring Stag Lodge and out to the Putara road end.

Our first climb for the day Saturday morning...up Herepai
Looking back at the hut
It was cloudy and getting cold
Stan Evans cross on Herepai
We soon had our first signs of snow
Time to rug up
We had lots of snow falls on the way to Dundas
It was worse the deeper into the interior we went
...but still lots of fun
T'was good to see Dundas hut after 7 cold hours
Definitely my favourite location in the Taras
Surrounded by majestic hills
The weather was too not bad below the ridge line
We stayed warm even though there was no fire
Then it snowed
Sunday started off sunny as we climbed out from Dundas
We were heading to Cattle Ridge (range at back) after the drop down to the Ruamahanga river
Was a pleasant walk
followed by a sidle for a few km's alongside the river
Old Boots sussing out a safe place to cross the Ruamahanga
We made it and started the climb back up Cattle Ridge
Getting closer, but still a little ways to go
Cattle Ridge...the top!
Cattle Ridge hut for lunch and a cuppa
Then the drop down to Roar Stag Lodge (centre photo)
There's a biggish washout about 10 minutes from Putara Road
