Parawai Hut at Otaki Forks is something of a gem, a classic old-style tramping hut. Come along and help tidy it up a bit for the upcoming 50th anniversary celebrations.

Colonial Knob – Titahi Bay

A varied trail - starting off on the Colonial Knob Walkway, crossing (with permission) over farmland to the coast, finishing on the Clifftops Walkway to the car park in southern Titahi Bay.

50th Jubilee Celebrations
Gather at Parawai Lodge at Otaki Forks in the evening.
Those that want to can stay overnight!
Gather at Otaihanga Boating Club from 3:00pm for meet and greet.
In the evening there will be a catered birthday dinner with the cake cutting.
Walk the Paekakariki Escarpment.
Gather for lunch at Finns in Paekakariki.

A long and interesting day walk starting at the top of Aro St, through Polhill Reserve to the Wind Turbine, the along the ridge to Red Rocks and around the coast to Owhiro Bay.
6 to 7 hours walking. Windy in parts but stunning views. Will only be done if we have good weather.
There are a couple of deep bits so you will get wet.
If it is not sunny we will go to the Sheridan Creek hauler.
Trip in from Otaki Forks.
Parts of the track are muddy.
Easy end of year walk followed by a barbecue.
Will go when the good weather spell hits and is for 4 to 5 days.
Plenty of walking in the riverbed.
We will be camping in the upper Otaki for a couple of nights.
Trip to visit a few of the huts near the Ohakune road access to Ruapehu.
Walk to a lesser visited Tararua hut. Island Forks hut is a small biodiversity hut in the Waitewaewae Basin. Longish days and some walking off track or the river.

An easy bike ride along the Mangaone stream.
4 Days. Crossing the Tararua Range from east to west. A great ‘first crossing’ for the less experienced. The full range of tramping experiences.
We’ll look for a new area to explore in the Akatarawa Range.
Good starting overnight trip. While at Roaring Stag we will visit the lake and some may go up to Cattle Ridge for a look.
A variant on the other trip with a pack float down the lower Gorge on the way out.
Flotation device and wetsuit essential.
Easy walk in along the track then a couple hours down the lower gorge to the farmland.
A few deep pools so expect to get wet.
Fine weather only.
Longer trip through the Hutt River catchment.
Paekakariki to Pukerua Bay and back.
2 to 3 hours each way.
Visit a couple of waterfalls and stretch of river and back along a ridge.
Longish day hut bagging.
A walk from the Estuary to Chrystalls Bend lagoon and back.

Easy trip around the coast from Pukerua Bay.
Back via the hill tops.
Great views and if its nice, a chance for a swim.
Easy trip in the Ruahines.
Possibly some flash food.
A little longer and harder trip in the Ruahine Range.
From the West Tamaki Road end, climb to the hopefully refurbished Travers Hut, then north along Takapari Road and down the track to Stanfield Hut for the night.
An easy walk out via the Tamaki River.
Easy walk around the coast from Titahi Bay.
Some rock hopping.
Over Kapakapanui and down a ridge to the new Waiotauru Hut.
On Sunday out down the track to Otaki Forks.
Day trip up to the new hut from Otaki Forks.
An easy ramble along each side of the river.
Southern Ruahine Range. A party going in at each end with a key swap half way.
Sabine over Moss Pass and down D’urville.
Start via Speargrass track or Travers valley. Finish with night at head of Lake Rotoroa and Jet boat ride out in morning. Limit 11 people.
Walk the Queen Charlotte.
Some may do a side trip to Mt Stokes – the high point in the Sounds.
Enjoy an overnight stay on Matiu/Somes Island with a gourmet meal/barbecue followed by penguin and tuatara spotting.
For the first 8 - The accommodation costs $25 per person payable to the trip leader. Others have to camp ($15).
Transport to Wellington and the ferry is your own expense (Goldcards free!)
Starting at Kiriwhakapapa, going over Blue Range and staying at Cow Creek.
Then up Table Ridge to Brockett, Girdlestone, Adkin and North King to camp at Mid King Bivy.
Going out over South King, Baldy and then down the Atiwhakatu to the Holdsworth road end.
Visit this hut in the southern end of the Ruahine Range.

Go to Taranaki Maunga on Friday night.
Day trip up the Eastern side. You need a head for heights on this route. Back down the scree to the north and then back to the start on the round the mountain track.
On the way home, possibly a couple of side trips.
